Work Life Balance

CHALLENGE

This has come to my attention, finding myself seating at my house on a Sunday night, after a 90 hours work week, working. I felt very tired, and decided to take a break and go for a run. I took my cell phone so I can listen to a podcast, with two professional in my industry talking about how to solve a problam I encounter at work. I then came back from the run, and felt even more exsahusted. It then accured to me, was this run a true break, or was it work related? what is even the difference between them?

THE MYTH OF WORKLIFE BALANCE

worklife balance app has one goal its trying to solve, and it is work/life imbalance. this might seem like an easy task at first, but with evolving technology, the defenition of work is getting blur, as well as the defenitino of life. is going to a bar after work with your boss is work, or life? is exerscing in the gym before an important presentation work, or life? is listening to a ted talk about programming while cooking a family dinner is work, or life? this all minor destingishes might seem minor, but they all contribute the work life imbalance, which research shows that they can easily lead to:

STORY

Balancing act

Away from work, away from phone.

the app goal is first of all to give a rate between one and ten to all your daily activities, 0 meaning all work, 10 meaning all life. and then it simplyl sums it up and tell you where you are at.

A HAND CRAFTED ADVENTURE

In the space of six months, three leading ladies have taken the spotlight: Jaina Proudmoore, the Alliance mage who will act as the final boss of the upcoming Battle of Dazar’Alor raid dungeon; Sylvanas, the undead Warchief of the Horde; and Queen Azshara, leader of the serpentine naga and big-bad-in-the-shadows. Each got her own Warbringers short this summer leading up to the launch of the expansion. These are definitely not your girl-next-door storylines either.

DESIGN

Having it all

Life is too messy for exact balance.

Employee interactions with the organization, through other employees, management, customers, or others, reinforces the employee identification with the organization.

Simultaneously, the employee must manage their "true self" identification. In other words, identity is "fragmented and constructed" through a number of interactions within and outside of the organization; employees do not have just one self.

THE PROBLEM

The cult of over work

The focus should be on work-life integration, not balance.

Spending long hours at work due to "inflexibility, shifting in work requirements, overtime or evening work duties" could lead to an imbalance between work and family

many people expose themselves to unsolicited job stress, because they enjoy high social recognition.

Greater technological advancements such as portable cellphones, portable computers, e-mail and cell phone have made it possible for employees to work beyond the confinement of their physical office space. This allows employees to answer e-mails and work on deadlines after-hours while not officially "on the job".
