The challenge: creating  the atmosphere for Hearthstone using its unique visual language. My role was designing and creating a hybrid of a movie and a still comic book that did not look like typical computer graphics, instead  focusing on animated illustrations and creating a new and fresh language for the franchise.

A SURPRISE IN EVERY PACK

The purpose of the animated illustrations was to tell the story of the city of Gilneas, which once lived in uneasy peace, a sprawling, ancient forest looming beyond its walls. That was before a darkness began to fester in the heart of the forest.

DESIGN

Consistency is King

A HAND CRAFTED ADVENTURE

In the space of six months, three leading ladies have taken the spotlight: Jaina Proudmoore, the Alliance mage who will act as the final boss of the upcoming Battle of Dazar’Alor raid dungeon; Sylvanas, the undead Warchief of the Horde; and Queen Azshara, leader of the serpentine naga and big-bad-in-the-shadows. Each got her own Warbringers short this summer leading up to the launch of the expansion. These are definitely not your girl-next-door storylines either.

A One Minute Musical

TELLING A STORY IN ONE MINUTE

One of the challenges of creating these shorts was engaging the viewer in the story of the next expansion in a short amount of time. Both songs and voice-over were combined while revealing the environments and characters of the new expansion.
